If you've known me for any length of time, you'll know I have a Taste in music. I was president of the Rock and Metal society; my 'music' icon on LJ is a portrait of a certain founding member of the shock rock genre. I wear a lot of black.
Of course, if you've known me for that long, you'll probably know I have an eclectic taste in music; it's not just the metal, but I adore Ani DiFranco and Mitch Benn and lots of artists who really have something to say
in a tuneful way.
So while it might be a bit of a surprise to hear that sometimes I really like a hip-hop artist, it shouldn't be too much of one. The artist in question is Mélange Lavonne
, a Californian lesbian 'hip-hop activist', whose video Gay-Bashing was linked to on AfterEllen
Aside from the obvious political message that I'm aligned with, I really love this song, and Mélange's voice. I've really started to listen to this genre as a activist movement, and I do love it.
Yeah, yeah, it's totally a political thing combined with a shallow thing (I think she's beautiful), but I've been listening to these songs all day, so I took it upon myself to share.
And that's my dose of beauty for the day.
