First Socks
Originally uploaded by innerbrat
I do not, currently, have a particularly high fever, so what I have right now isn't the Piggie Sniffles. Just something that gives me a killer headache and lots of fatigue and generally makes me miserable. I've been at home for a few days, now, with avariel_wings who is also sick, watching TV and knitting.

The knitting is going well; I finished my first ever pair of socks a few weeks ago now: they fit well (because obviously my feet were there as I knitted) and are nicely between the much-too-thin of normal shop bought socks and the thick hiking or snuggly sock that do instead of slippers. These socks are indeed great for boots that are just half a size too big, and the alpaca wool is really comfy.

There was a problem in yarn quantity though: the first sock took more than half my yarn and now I have ridiculously mismatched socks in terms of length, so they're comfy socks of home and under boots, but not so much with the going out. This is OK for now, but my second pair is well underway now - with much more expensive and sexy-coloured yarn, and I really don't want to have the same mistake.

Meanwhile I have three other projects in various states of completeness, but they're all gifts so I won't talk about them in too much detail here. Knitting remains good for me; it keeps me in front of the TV so I can follow the story, and it keeps me present on the tube on my commute so I can listen to my podcast. and with all the commuting I'm doing these days, it's all coming along well.

I do have mor to say about Life, which I've been watching, and Being Human, which I've been re-watching, but they can wait until I've seen the first season finales of both of them.

My brain didn't process the capital in Life and I wondered what the season finale for life involved.

Very curious to see what you will have to say about the adventures of notCharlie and notRenee.

Feel better!

Apart from "Holy crap that's Charlie and Renee!" (except entirely the wrong one of them is sleeping with all the beautiful women).

It's great. Charlie's a great character.

Yay for home-made clothes! Your socks look very cute and comfy. :)

I hope you feel better soon.

I love those socks. I hope you feel better soon, too.

Is there a pattern for those socks? They look like they'd go past my usual problem with socks.

I got the pattern in a book - the Sock Knitting Kit, that also came with the yarn I used. It's used K2 p" rib, with a heel and a toe different.

Life, depressingly, is now cancelled :( Waily! Although, to be fair, the second season was nowhere near as good as the first (good bits, ended well, but... not up to scratch, TBH. Worth watching ofc *s*).

Still, Life is possessed of a deep and abiding awesomeness. And fruit!

BTW, if you like fanvids, I'd recommend you finish watching the first season and then toddle over here - link to download the zip of the vid is in the title.

Ooh, I like those socks. It's so hard to get a decent sock these days. Some of the ones my dad has have lasted about twenty years; I counted the time taken to form holes in one set I bought and the worst was five wears.

Sadly I don't think I have the patience to knit my own XD. I have a tendancy to start things, get 3/4 of the way through them, then leave them in a pile somewhere.
