I'm dreaming of a whiiiiite Easter

sheep, meme
Given that in any given year, there's only really a four week period in which Eostre may fall, the intense drama in the potential weather conditions is still worth noting. The InnerRent's garden looked very nice ten minutes ago before it all melted, but I didn't take a picture.

Anyway. Some things:

Five things I do when checking LJ:
  • Read icon keywords, just like Weaves. Trouble is, all my friends appear to have incredibly random keywords so it doesn't help me understand anything.
  • Hardly ever leave my friends page ever. Cuts are unfolded, comments are read, even made, using the right click menu LJ addons gives me. Only when there's a link to an external site do I wheel-click into a new tab and carry on reading. Or RP threads, which my layout can't handle.
  • Systematically turn between all open tabs (links, webcomics, RP threads, friends page) and the inbox, dealing with comment notifications in order.
  • del.icio.us everything I think is worthy of a daily linkspam, unless I find something inspiring enough to blog about. Still, I keep SeMagic open at all times in case it's one of those days (like this one) when Livejournal gives me a lot to talk about.
  • Click on the LJ addon popup everytime my friends page is updated to see the updates immediately. Then neglect to track anything so I never get to see interesting conversations unfold.

Mitch Benn on Grammar:
I know there's a rule about starting sentences with "but", but screw it, it just means you end up starting them with "however", and since"however" at the beginning of a sentence just means "I really wanted to start this sentence with 'but' but I'm not allowed" , and everybody knows this, then frankly you may as well just start with "but", so I just did

Vid of the Day:

P.Z. Myers and Richard Dawkins on their experiences seeing (and trying to see) Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed:
Opinions

The kerfuffle surrounding PZ Myers expulsion from Expelled is glorious to behold. It exposes these lying, so-and-so's for the wotsits they clearly are.

It's just... unbelievable and yet totally believable. Those people are BUTTFUCK CRAZY.

Have been watching this unfold with great amusement!

Creationists are mad people.

So called "intelligent" design is just creationism with a mask on. It isn't science and it certainly isn't intelligent.

Here's the weird thing. I have no problem with creationists. I mean, okay, the scientist and logical side of me says they're wrong, and here's all these mounds of evidence that the earth is older then whatever figure they derive from the Bible, and here's all these mounds of evidence showing evolution, and so forth.

But you know what? It's okay that they have their own opinion.

It's just not okay that they would try and stop someone with a different opinion from viewing their opinion because he might then be able to criticize it and critique it better.

Now, I did miss something on this whole thing... what was so special about this showing that he was excluded from it? Was it the only one in the area? Is there something keeping him from going to a different theater and watching it? (Presumably with the assistance of a false moustache and a derby hat as a disguise?)

It's not on general release yet, and I think they want all reviews atm to be positive ones.

Ahhhh...

Because pre-release reviews are always appropriate and precise, like those movies that claim "Best Comedy of the Year" in the second week of January...

And happy ZCJ Day to you too.

one of the laws of documentary making is when you say a word you don't cut to a picture of the thing in question.

Reminds me of my animation course where some students were doing animated music videos and would have literal images for all the lyrics. Gah.

Oddly I had a teacher who insisted that starting a sentence with 'however' was equally ungrammatical. So instead of saying:

"However, this is a stupid idea."

you should say:

"This, however, is a stupid idea."

...This, however, is a stupid idea.

I had read about the incident with Myers and Dawkins, but I hadn't seen this video. Thanks so much!
