Hey, Brits?

Do us a favour and go tell PG Tips you won't be buying tea from them while Johnny Vegas is their advertising front man.

- eck, and to top it all off, I've just discovered it was in the Bloomsbury theatre. MY COLLEGE THEATRE. She could easily have been a student at UCL.

Now I do feel sick.

I tried posting to that effect (and I have, in the past, drank PG Tips when I could find it in the States), but they won't accept my US postcode.

Done. It'll be interesting to see whether they get any more complaints or if it's reported.

As an aside, I was watching Jonathon Ross tonight and this whole thing came to mind. It struck me that Jonathon is very sexual with his guests and sometiems quite gross, but it's funny the way he does it. He never goes too far, it's clearly always a joke and every one of his guests takes it that way. I tried to imagine Johnny Vegas managing to pull that off and knew he couldn't - when he says gross things to women, you never really know if he's joking or not (and suspect he isn't). It was just weird, thinking of the differences. /rambling

I'm not sure there's much point in my filling out the form, as I drink coffee, and drink Earl Grey if I'm having tea anyway.

As for the Bloomsbury? Ugh. I hope to god they never book him again. If there's a way of complaining to them I'd very much like to know.

I stopped buying PG tips when he became their front man becuase I've always loathed him. I am now, however, moved to ask my parents to stop buying them too.

I can’t boycott PG Tips because I don’t buy them anyway. But PG Tips are owned by Unilever, who own about 400 other brands — there must be one of them I can boycott.

Will you at least tell them why?

Yes. I’ve just told Wall’s ice cream (here) that I’m boycotting them because of Johnny Vegas.

The wonderful thing about many boycotts is that you only have to threaten to boycott, regardless of whether you actually buy the product or not. It is the perception of the boycott, rather then the reality that often causes corporations to react.

It's like sending a politician a snail-mail. So many politicians judge their constituencies' opinions not on how much e-mail they receive from them, but how many written letters they receive. It takes a bit more effort, after all, to write and post a letter then to type in and send an e-mail.

I don’t like to make threats I am unable or unwilling to carry out.

Ah, actually had to read up on why you invoked the feminism Tag; wasn't aware of what had happened; always thought he was just boring, rather than a dodgy P.o.s.
