Sometimes comment memes bore me.

So guys?

What do you like about me? And/or what change have I wrought in your life.

Does anyone have any resources about what it's like to live without vision? I'm link farming.

I like: how self-aware you are, how strong your sense of identity is, and how enthusiastic you are about the things you love.

Changes: you've made me a lot more clued-up on any number of gender, sex and sexuality issues, and also inspired me towards better LJ icons and layouts!

Too many things about you to name.

As for the changes - well, I'd have no identifiable hope of moving out of my parents' house without you, for one.

You saved me lots of money by letting me (and my friend) stay the night at your place, even though you hardly knew me. And you were very kind and friendly and everything to boot, which was wonderful.

And you always have some original and interesting and usually topical to say, which is impressive and appreciated, as I rarely do, and so many others rarely do.

I like your BRANE. I like your writing style and the things you have to say about everything from the news to science to feminism to Discworld.

I like your company; you're kind and generous and a great friend to both of us, a title few can claim as Andrew doesn't really do that having-friends thing.

And you introduced me to the best Mexican restaurant I've found so far in the UK!

Living without ANY vision, or does living with only less-than-normal vision count as well? I just know more about the latter, y'see.

Meh, I was going to go with the much simpler "the way your arse looks in a long skirt", but that works too.

Oh, and a lot of gender/sexuality stuff—I'd ask for my straight back but I really couldn't care less.

I like your relentless quests for knowledge and that your search includes self-knowledge and adaption. I will explain when I am not so tired.

you sorted me out with a job when I first moved to london, can't ask for more than that from friends.

Visually impaired stuff; actually I have just been sent a link from jons brother, who has worked in the art world for the blind, cuz I mentioned gennys post about her mums blind pupil a while back. Dunno if it's also useful for you, but I'l send it anyway,http://forum.blindart.net/default.aspx
blindart in general is the place to go for all things artistic.
If its not just out of idle curiosity, and you've got a few days, my friend christine has just started a job assesing universities for disabled access, I dunno wheter they cover blind people or not, but I can give her an ask?
Laura :-)

You taught me how to write action livejournal threads, this may seem small but it wasn't for me. The first thread of the two Wills was for me, one that made me go, oh yes I can do this.

Your entries always make me think about something new and interesting or something older in a different way. I wish we were connecting more but changing timezones hasn't helped sadly.

I really just. I'm really bad at this. I think you're awesome and I sort of idolize your ability to write – well, to write. To write fiction and to write blogposts and to be indignant about things in a well-written fashion.

I ... have lived without vision, for a little while when I was younger, but I don't think that helps very much. :| I feel like I should be able to find essays, but I can only find links to Amazon books and stories about Hellen Keller.

I like that you are also among those who don't do memes that often. And that you choose good ones.

And the biggest change you wrought in my life is that you were my chief enabler when Milliways was but a passing fancy and not an all consuming obsession. :)

I. I. I.

I like too many things about you to think of even one.

If I had never met you, then my cousin would never have bumped into us at the airport and I would have one less wacky real-world vs. internetz collision story to tell!

ALSO I would never have read Fray or learned to appreciate the glory that is Mel and Harth.

As for things I like about you: they are many and many, but up there around the top are your creativity and your humor and your willingness to speak your opinion.

I think you're cool because, from comments that you've left in other peoples' LJs, I've gathered that you're enlightened in many ways when it comes to issues of sexuality, gender, and race. That's why I added you!

I like your general approach to life, and your thoughtfulness, particular when it comes to standing up for the things you very strongly believe in even if they're not part of the popular opinion.

And as for change...well, you're one of the reasons why I'm socking away the cash to come back to the UK, because I miss my Millibrit friends.

I have a very good friend who is blind. I'll see if he has any suggested resources. He's also, by the way, an excellent skiier. One of my favorite conversations with him:

Me: You go down the black slopes? I can't even look down them without quaking in my boots.
He: Well, that's not a problem I have.
14th-May-2008 05:59 am (UTC)
That'd be cool, thanks.

(the character I'm creating used to be an archer. While researching her, I then found that blind archery is an actual sport.)

I like that you are fiendishly intelligent, but don't take yourself too seriously.

Changes you have wrought? You have made me stop and think about some things I don't normally think about, and from a different perspective.
