Eureka and I started off on a bad foot: I wasn't sure what to expect, it didn't mesh well with my attention-issues; and some of the subject matter hit my 'oh that's just not on' squick triggers. After watching the first two eps, I left it a couple of weeks while Drakhen was on holiday, and yesterday we all sat down to watch 1.03.
If you've been reading my journal at all recently, I bet you're expecting me to be all in a huff because of perceived problems with gender, race, etc in it.
Admit it, you are, aren't you?
Well actually -I liked it. I liked the story (abusive husband, wife acquires her own agency to deal with it - the men still 'rescue' her, but it's clear it wasn't really needed), I didn't see any racial undertones I didn't like, and the characters are growing on me.
The pacing's still a little slow - sometimes I forgit what's going on because I wasn't not paying attention, but that's me, not the show.
Now if only the avis we're watching it on weren't such terrible quality.
