Fossil Detectives
26th-Aug-2008 11:38 am
This morning on Virgin on Demand (courtesy of iPlayer), I watched that very rare thing: a good, enjoyable, informative documentary on my area of expertise. Yeah, you read that right.

The documentary in question is the Fossil Detectives, a co-production between the OU and the BBC. as recommended by davegodfreyDave and by fellow volunteers at the NHM. And it's not just a TV programme: it's a massive new media project about palaeontology, with a downloadable guide, a well designed and timesinky website, and a range of videos. Just what I needed, in fact, to remind me that palaeontology rocks.

No idea how much is available outside the UK. Sorry guys, but the British licence payer paid for this programme.

Oh, and if you've not voted in the Very Prestigious Blog Awards, go do so! If I'm going to be second, I can handle being second to someone as awesome as lizbeeLiz, but it'd be nice to get half of her votes.

I felt less dirty when trying to persuade you to vote against Wesley Crusher.

... palaeontology rocks.

Geddit? Ahahahahaha!!! ... Ahem, sorry.

Pun intended, dearheart. Pun absolutely intended.

Now go and vote.

I guessed as much, but what the hey, it's been a slow morning.

Out of that list the only blog I've read is yours. Therefore, would you object to me voting for you simply because I like you, or is the vote the thing?
26th-Aug-2008 11:04 am (UTC)
Put it this way: you choose to read my blog over the others, therefore you think I'm best. So vote that way.

Just let me pretend that it's not a case of who can persuade more of their friends.

I didn't mean to be coming first. I saw I was up against Stephen Fry and figured I'd like to lose with more than one vote. It's genuinely embarrassing, and I'm not being falsely modest.
26th-Aug-2008 11:11 am (UTC)
Oh, I know exactly how you feel. But that's the whole point, really: to make the turnout at the poll as big as possible. You have more readers out of anyone whose up who knows/cares about it, so you deserve to win. Because your blog is awesome.

Though I don't mind settling it through mud wrestling.

How do you feel about Jell-O? I have a couple of packets of the port wine flavoured stuff around here.
26th-Aug-2008 11:22 am (UTC)
As long as I don't accidentally swallow any, I think jelly is a very good idea. That'll dispense with any awkward feelings on either side.

Let's just pretend that earlier fail never happened, shall we?

26th-Aug-2008 11:58 am (UTC) - Here, I fixed that up for you.

*cries quietly in a corner*

I felt less dirty when trying to persuade you to vote against Wesley Crusher.

That's because everyone hates Wesley Crusher. (Although I understand Wil Wheaton is a pretty cool guy.)
26th-Aug-2008 12:57 pm (UTC)
Wil Wheaton is a really cool guy. His blog is definitely worth a read.

Thanks for the heads up on the Fossil detectives.
