Today's day of happiness is dedicated to the thing that makes me happiest of all.
Sorry, did I say thing? I meant person.
Roughly four years ago, I was becoming part of a community of online gamers and fandom types, and was making a lot of friends all over the world. Including one person who was not only a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but an old skoolfan, of the actual comics. This person's brilliant wit, sense of humour, turn of phrase, and above all her passion for learning and for science bowled me over. That she liked me back - well, I'm not sure I'll ever get over that.
It's my girlfriend's birthday today, and I think that's more than enough cause for celebration. She talks me down when I'm panicking, cheers me up when I'm depressed, and always seems to know what to say; a fantastic friend, a talented writer and one of the smartest people I know; and it makes me happy every day that she fell in love with me.
Advancing the Sum Total of Human Knowledge and Endeavour catalogues one woman's attempt to understand the world by understanding the stories that are told, by journalists, politicians, scientists, and, occasionally writers of official 'fiction'.
