So again, particularly in light of their work in Kyrgyzstan at the moment, I thought it would be a good use of our time to raise some money for Medicine Sans Frontiere/Doctors Without Borders.
The MSF Charter
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a private international association. The association is made up mainly of doctors and health sector workers and is also open to all other professions which might help in achieving its aims. All of its members agree to honor the following principles:
Médecins Sans Frontières provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict. They do so irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions.
Médecins Sans Frontières observes neutrality and impartiality in the name of universal medical ethics and the right to humanitarian assistance and claims full and unhindered freedom in the exercise of its functions.
Members undertake to respect their professional code of ethics and to maintain complete independence from all political, economic or religious powers.
As volunteers and members understand the risks and dangers of the missions they carry out and make no claim for themselves or their assigns for any form of compensation other than that which the association might be able to afford them.
Why private donations are necessary
Help : Twelve Tales of Recovery
So far I have no stories, which is what this post is for.
I need 12 stories, which can be anything from 1,200 words to 12,000 words long, on the theme of "healing"; the healing in question can be psychological or physical, ideological, etc, but must involve a recognisible sentient being (ie. "healing the environment" is not acceptable as it is not relevant).
There must not be graphic pornography in your story.
You may submit more than one story, although only one story will be published. There is no guarantee that your story will be one of the ones published; criteria for inclusion in addition to compliance with the entry requirements includes whether or not I've got enough submissions of suitable length to make the book worth people buying.
The material you submit must be original work; no fanworks, and no sending original work whose printing rights you have already given to someone else.
In order to have this book ready for sale in December [for Christmas] I will need the final draft of your story by the first week of October.
Contact me - derekdesanges [@] gmail.com - with your document as a .doc not a .docx
You are encouraged to disseminate this information as far as possible across the interwebs.
Profits from the sales of the book will be donated directly to MSF from the monthly author remittances delivered by Lulu.com
Once I have put the book together and am ready to send it to print I will email Joanna Davies, who is in charge of fundraisers in my area, and let her know what we're doing in case news about the book's existence can be spread more widely that way. I am not emailing her before I have the stories in because I don't want to go HEY PROJECT OH NO WAIT NO STORIES.
