Well, it’s that time again when everyone’s returning from Thanksgiving (or as I tend to think of it, the Christmas Rehearsal Dinner) and my friends list / blog roll fills up with people asking for addresses for their friends to send out holiday cards.
And once again, I explain that I ask people not to put a piece of paper in an envelope and mail it to me. And I won’t do the same for you.
What I do ask people to do for me is to make a small charitable donation – the amount you’d otherwise spend on a card and postage and no more. I will do the same. All I ask of you is to nominate the charity to which you would like that donation made, out of the following three:
Medicins sans Frontiers (Doctors without Borders) is an international aid organisation that provides emergency aid to people affected by natural and less-natural disasters and war. They are independent, a-partisan and a-religious and use this independence to provide medical aid to everyone who needs it.
826NYC is dedicated to engaging New York City children in creative writing and other educative activities. They arrange workshops, fieldtrips, and publish works by many aspiring writers throughout the city.
The HI Fund at GOSH is a restricted fund at Great Ormond Street Hospital, earmarked for research into and support for children with congenital hyperinsulinism, something which is particularly close to my family’s heart. If you do wish to make a donation in my name, this is where I would request it.
So drop a comment wherever you read this, or if you have Livejournal, Dreamwidth or OpenID, fill in the poll here. Let me know where you would like your donation, or if you have no preference, I’ll use your name to even it out.
